The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) does exactly what it says. It prevents your wheels from locking up during braking. This allows the vehicle to be more controlled and quicker in coming to a complete stop. It is, therefore, very important that you conduct an ABS system diagnostics service to ensure an optimum safe driving experience.
ABS was invented by Mercedes-Benz in 1978 but is now implemented in all modern day cars. The system is comprised of the following components:
- ABS Control Module – this is the brains of the system and engages the ABS Pump when sensor feedback requires it.
- ABS Pump – this is that “pumping” feeling you sense when your ABS is engaged.
- ABS Wheel Speed Sensor – sends back data to the ABS Control Module regarding wheel speed.
- ABS Differential Sensor – sends back data to the ABS Control Module the speed of the differential.
If any of the above components fail, then the ABS warning light will illuminate, and you are in need of an ABS system diagnostics service. At the European Service Center, our ASE certified service mechanics have the tools and experience to inspect, diagnose, and repair any ABS issues you may be having.
