Half shafts, also known as axle shafts, are installed on rear-wheel drive vehicles. They are responsible for transferring power from the transmission to the wheels. Half shafts (Axle Shafts) undergo a lot of pressure from moving up and down while also turning. For this reason, they are prone to failure.
What to Look Out For
- Clicking noise when turning – this is the most common sign of a failing half shaft (axle shaft) and will be noticeable.
- Vibrating when driving – the vibration is more noticeable at higher speeds, but this is the cause of a bent half shaft (axle shaft).
- A clunk noise when accelerating – the source of the clunking noise could be something else, so you must get it checked.
