It is common knowledge that cars require gas to run, hence the reason why we constantly need to fill up our gas tanks. However, if the Volkswagen fuel pump is faulty, you may have a serious issue on your hands.

The fuel pump is a component of the fuel injection system responsible for moving the fuel from the fuel tank to the fuel injectors in the vehicle’s engine based on the demand of the engine. In most modern cars, the fuel pump is an electric motor pump as opposed to the mechanical pump used in older models. As long as the fuel pump is effective, providing the required amount of fuel at the required pressure, your Volkswagen will continue running smoothly.

What Are The Signs That of a Faulty Volkswagen Fuel Pump?

A malfunctioning fuel pump will be unable to create enough pressure to push the fuel through the VW relay system to the fuel injectors. If the fuel doesn’t get to the engine, there will be no fuel to ignite and power the engine when you turn on the ignition, it may crank, but it is unlikely to start. If the fuel pump fails while you are on the road, you may experience engine stalling and loss of power. This can be dangerous! You may also notice decreased fuel economy, a fuel leak, whining noises from the engine and an illuminated check engine light. It is not recommended to drive with a malfunctioning fuel pump, and it would be in your best interest to get your Volkswagen to an auto repair shop.

Fixing a Faulty Volkswagen Fuel Pump

If we suspect a failing fuel pump, we check the fuel injection system from the fuel pump to the fuel filter and the fuel injectors to ensure that the pump is delivering the right amount of fuel with sufficient fuel pressure based on the engine’s demands. We will also check the electrical circuit that powers the pump to confirm if the voltage provided is sufficient to enable the pump.

If the malfunction is as a result of an error in the circuit, then it is an electrical problem unrelated to the fuel pump and will be addressed accordingly. However, if the fuel pump or any other component in the fuel injection system is faulty, then it will require a replacement. As long as your engine is running, your fuel pump is also active, so it is necessary to get your fuel system regularly serviced to keep everything in optimum condition. Even a clog in the fuel filter can affect the efficiency of the pump. The fuel pump is bound to deteriorate with mileage, and with deterioration comes reduced performance.

You do not have to wait for your pump to start malfunctioning or completely fail before you get it replaced. The efficiency of your fuel pump may be the difference between being stranded on the road and getting to your destination safely.

What is the Volkswagen Ignition Coil and What Does It Do?

The ignition system is what enables your vehicle to start when you turn on the ignition and the ignition coils is the heart of this system. These coils work by sending high-voltage current to the spark plugs, the current fires up the spark plugs which ignite the car’s fuel enabling the vehicle to start. The ignition coils amplify the voltage in the battery to produce the electrical energy needed for the car to start. In older VW cars, the ignition system is designed in such a way that one ignition coil sends the spark to a distributor, which sends the power to all the spark plugs. The newer models have an ignition coil for every spark plug, this way, each coil is directly igniting a certain plug without the need for a distributor.  Whether via a distributor system or a direct system, a malfunctioning ignition coil is no good to the engine of your car.

What are the Indicators of Malfunction in the Ignition System?

When the Volkswagen ignition coil is faulty or requires a replacement, your Volkswagen will give off certain tell-tale signs of a malfunction in the engine compartment. Signs that your ignition coils are damaged and will require repair services include; engine misfiring and backfiring, unexpected stalling and power loss in the engine especially while driving, poor fuel economy, an illuminated check engine light, snapping and cranking sounds from the engine compartment and a general poor performance. It is recommended that you consult a professional mechanic once these signs become apparent.

How Do We Fix Damaged Volkswagen Ignition Coil?

Replacement of the coils is usually done along with the replacement of the spark plugs as they work hand in hand. The efficiency of one is dependent upon the other. Regular maintenance and servicing will also help with  early detection and timely resolution of potential problems before they manifest.

How Brakes Work

Understanding how brakes work will help you look out or any irregularities in your braking system, therefore increasing safety on the road for everyone. The braking systems of today use multiple sensors and electronics to stop a car as quickly as possible. Nonetheless, the primary braking system is still used.
When you press the braking pedal, that pressure moves a piston in the master cylinder, forcing braking fluid to enter the brake lines to the calipers and wheel cylinders. The force applied to the brake pedal is therefore proportional to the force applied to the pistons.
The calipers in disk brakes and wheel cylinders in drum brakes are connected to disk pads and braking shoes respectively. The pistons push the disk pads or braking shoes onto the rotor or wall, causing friction and resulting in the decreased rotation of the wheel.

Components of the Braking System

Braking systems include either disk brakes or drum brakes. Disk Brakes are comprised of a disc/rotor, calipers, disk pads and hardware necessary to mount the components to the car. The caliper is connected to the hoses and wires that send the braking fluid when the brake pedal is depressed.

Braking Fluid

Water used to be used as a braking fluid in the past. However, the braking process causes temperatures to rise past the boiling point of water. This causes water to vapor resulting in brake failure.
Braking fluid is a hydraulic fluid with a high boiling point. Hydraulic fluids are used to transfer power, in this case, from the pedal to the calipers and cylinders while surviving high temperatures caused by braking. Braking fluid also protects against corrosion of systems it comes in contact with.
