Engine oil plays an important role in the longevity of your engine. It is also one of the main reasons we schedule our vehicles for regular maintenance. However, sometimes we are forced to visit our trusted service shop early because of an oil leak.
Oil protects your engine from corrosion, wearing down through friction, and keeps it clean from debris. So, an oil leak can be a real problem for your engine — and your driveway. If you suspect an oil leak, then you should have your car looked at.
What to Look Out For
- A dark stain under your car – this is the most obvious sign, but most modern cars catch oil leaks, so if you see a stain it might already be too late.
- Engine oil level low – most modern cars have oil level sensors, but if you don’t, you can always use the dip-stick to check it yourself.
- A strange smell – if oil is leaking and getting on to the engine, you will smell it being burned.
The reasons for an oil leak are many. It could be the oil filter, the oil drain plug, the oil pan, the oil filler cap, and gaskets and seals that are not installed right. But if you are experiencing any oil leak, you need to schedule your services with the European Service Center.
