Fuel injection involves injecting fuel into the combustion chamber or cylinder. So, fuel injectors are electronically controlled nozzles responsible for injecting fuel –in the form of mist– into your cylinder as part of the combustion process.
Typically, you should have as many fuel injectors as you have cylinders, and they are considered the main parts of the fuel injection system. And while they are well-designed and tested, they are prone to failure.
What to Look Out For
- Poor performance – if your fuel injector is not working properly, then you are not getting the right amount of gas into your cylinders.
- Check Engine light is on – failing fuel injectors will cause the engine to misfire, which will illuminate the Check Engine light.
- Bad fuel economy – if you notice that your engine is burning more gas than it should, then it could be the fuel injection system.
Other symptoms are the smell of raw gas, but a fuel leak is very dangerous. Don’t start the car in the circumstance and have your car towed. However, if you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, schedule your visit to the European Service Center.
