Why do cars hydroplane, and how do I avoid it?
Hydroplaning happens when water gets between your tires and the road and the tires lose grip — worn tread, too much speed, or standing water make it worse. Keep good tread, slow down in rain, and avoid deep puddles on Preston and the Tollway. If your tread is low, our Plano shop can check and replace your tires before the next North Texas storm.
What does it mean when my car is sputtering?
Sputtering — a jerk or loss of power when you press the gas — usually means the fuel or ignition system is struggling: dirty or failing spark plugs, fuel filter, pump, or MAF sensor. You can limp it in, but you risk more damage. Better to have it towed to our Plano shop off Preston Road so we can check both systems.
Where do cars leak oil from?
Most oil leaks come from a worn seal or gasket, a loose or bad drain plug, or an overfill, and road debris can knock the oil pan loose too. Many are preventable with proper service — keep up with oil changes at our Plano shop and we’ll catch a seep before it becomes a leak on your garage floor.
What should I do if I see smoke in my car?
Smoke usually shows up at the exhaust or under the hood, and the cause varies, so pull over safely and find where it’s coming from before driving further. If it’s near the engine or fuel system, get well clear and call for a tow — our Plano shop handles towing and diagnostics, and while your car is in we can put you in a loaner.
