Is Preventative Maintenance the Same for European Brands in Dallas and Houston?

While some things like checking and changing your fluids, inspecting your brakes, and the occasional tune-up for performance are going to be similar, European vehicles sometimes have extra steps that will be unique to that make and model and different mileage or time schedules for when they should be done.

Here are some preventative maintenance examples for a few different models to give you a better idea:

  • Volkswagen – Powerhouses of efficiency, Volkswagens still need to be maintained in order to preserve that excellent engineering. For instance, every 2 years the manufacturer recommends that you should bleed and change the fluid for your brakes. That’s because over time that fluid can absorb a bit too much moisture and if this goes unchecked, corrosion may begin and it could start spreading.
  • BMW – BMWs are high-performance vehicles and so they tend to get a little hot under the hood. Coolant issues are a common problem without the right kind of care to balance that heat properly, and so BMW recommends that every 2 – 3 years you get your coolant checked and changed. This helped to avoid any debris or other gunk building up and compromising the coolant system.
  • Mini – Minis need their brake fluid flushed and replaced every 30,000 miles, and the fuel filter every 40,000 miles. Once you’ve gotten 60,000 miles out of your Mini, you also want to replace the drive belt. Little details like this are important and easy to forget, as well as these vehicles perform, so it really pays to have an expert like European Service Center on your side!

European Service Center Scheduled Maintenance FAQ

How does preventative maintenance work?

Preventative maintenance is simply routine maintenance that has been recommended by the manufacturer of your vehicle. They’re going to have a list of components in your vehicle that need to be checked, along with the proper mileage or time frame when it will be ideal to do so.

This helps you to stop problems before they can begin and also to ensure that if you need warranty service, you won’t be denied for failing to keep up your end of the agreement.

What happens if you fail to perform preventive maintenance?

European vehicles have precision-engineering that goes into them and that fine machinery needs a little tender loving care in order to maintain its stellar performance. Failing to maintain your vehicle can have catastrophic effects, and just because you haven’t noticed anything yet doesn’t mean that there’s not an issue.

With regular preventative maintenance, wear and tear on your engine may be gauged, fluids changed out and topped up, and with a little luck your vehicle will be performing in a top-notch fashion for many years to come.

Is it possible to do too much preventive maintenance?

Yes, there is such a thing as too much preventative maintenance, and it’s a waste of time and money. Your vehicle has a very specific preventative maintenance plan that’s been put in place by your manufacturer and it doesn’t need more than that – and it especially doesn’t need less.

At European Service Center, we’ll make sure that your vehicle gets exactly what it needs, when it needs it. So, give us a call and leave your preventative maintenance scheduling to us. With decades of experience, we promise we’ll take good care of your vehicle so that you won’t have to worry!
