2019 Bentley Continental GT

Bentley has done it again. They have made the impossible possible. A vehicle as luxurious, and as heavy as the Continental GT should not be able to accelerate as fast as it should. And it definitely should not hit the top speed that it does. But it does. How did Bentley do it? With superb engineering.

Engineering great vehicles have always been at the core of Bentley’s history. Its founder W.O. Bentley loved to race and had the motto, “To Build a good car, a fast car, the best in class.” And so he began engineering and building fast cars, and that heritage continues until today.

Bentley’s luxury heritage comes from its close relationship with Rolls-Royce starting in the 1930s until the 1970s when the company was bought and sold a couple of times. It eventually became part of the Volkswagen Group in 1998 and continued to be until today.

The Exterior

The exterior of the Continental GT is stunning. Its long and low body is full of sharp curves and lines that seem to be shaped by the elements. The grill is impressive with headlights reminiscent of cat eyes. But it is the wheels that complete the look and make it a fantastic grand tourer. No other “GT” looks like this, and other “GT” acts like it either.

The Interior

As you can imagine, the interior of the Bentley Continental GT is lavish. True to its heritage, the Bentley team has created a new standard in interior car design. The options available or the interior can run you up to $100K with a wide range of handcrafted veneered or double veneered surfaces. The hides that are available are hand cut, and hand stitched, including diamond-in-diamond quilting, so that you can be surrounded by absolute luxury. All buttons, handles, and switches are made with chrome-dipped solid metal, which just screams quality. Surprisingly, the back is not too bad and can accommodate two average-sized adults.

The Engine

It is the engine that makes this masterpiece of a vehicle what it is. The Continental GT is equipped with a 626 horsepower 6.0L Twin-Turbo W12 engine. Transferring that immense power to the wheels is an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, sending the vehicle to 60 Mph in just 3.6 seconds, and topping it out at 207 Mph. There are also four different driving modes, including Bentley Mode, which is the best combination of sport and comfort.

As W.O. Bentley put it so well, they built a good car, a fast car, and the best in its class. A company that stays true to its founding is a company that will endure the test of time.
