History of Aston Martin
You have seen the commercials everywhere. Aston Martin has done a complete makeover of the brand. The Aston Martin is mostly known for the V12 Vanquish, and for starring in James Bond movies. However, they revamped their lineup and are pushing for a new era for the British luxury-sports-car manufacturer.
Most recently, Aston Martin announced that they would build a car that will rival the Ferrari 488 by 2020, with seven more models by 2023. That is an aggressive goal, but can it be done?
Aston Martin has been around for over 100 years. It was founded by two car enthusiasts, Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford. Not only did the duo love racing, but they also loved to do it in style. Aston Marin has always been known to possess both the qualities of power and beauty –something overwhelmingly inherent in many British automobiles.
Car racing is a robust and competitive sport. Aston Martin has competed at high levels in all primary races, such as the French Grand Prix and the 24 hour LeMans. The company’s obsession with car racing continues until today, where they grabbed first place at the 2017 24 Hours LeMans GTE Pro Class with the Aston Martin V8 Vantage GTE. They also produced the stunning and impressive Valkyrie Hypercar and even a submarine. All of this advancement, from rebranding to designing superior cars have them shooting for a new goal: Ferrari.
Ferrari – Car Racing Dominance
It’s no secret the Ferrari was founded on car racing and dominates the sport until today. Whatever technical know-how they gain from racing is trickled down into their vehicles. Ferrari is known to be perfectionists and always strive for the top spot.
The Ferrari 488 was first released in 2015. It is a mid-engine sports car, powered by a Ferrari 3.9 liter twin-turbo V8. It won the car of the year in 2015 by To
p Gear, and “Best Driver’s Car” by MotorTrend in 2017. So Aston Martin has some stiff competition.
The Aston Martin Valkyrie
Its name takes after Norse mythology, the Aston Martin Valkyrie is a hypercar fit for the gods. It was first announced in March 2017 with a 2.5 million Euro price tag, and it has the specs to support it. For example, the engine is a 6.5 liter naturally-aspirated V12 producing over 1,000 horsepower –giving it a 1:1 power to weight ratio.
This newly planned Aston Martin will most likely borrow significantly from the Valkyrie to compete against the Ferrari 488. CEO Andy Palmer confirmed this in an interview with Top Gear. However, there are still many unknowns, as in what engine will it use, a
nd what will the body comprise of. Whatever it is, you can count on the fact that it will be a ferocious competitor in the mid-engine sports car space.
